Please see the attached information sheet that provides more in-depth information regarding the ballot measure. Click here for further information: Proposal
Changes to Fall Leaf Collection
No need to bag leaves any longer, the City of St. Johns has purchased a leaf vacuum truck system. This vacuum will pick up leaves more efficiently and quickly, while leaving behind less debris.
The schedule for picking up leaves is as follows:
North of M-21 (State Street) will be the first half of October and November
South of M-21 (State Street) will be the second half of October and November
Please rake leaves in a pile in the City right-of-way area in front your house, between the sidewalk and the curb. If there is no sidewalk in front of your property, please rake leaves 6 inches behind the curb but not further than 6 feet from the curb. DO NOT RAKE LEAVES IN THE STREET, as the leaves can be hazardous with traffic and also block storm sewers from draining properly. Anyone raking or otherwise placing leaves, trimmings, & similar type organic plant materials in the public street will be subject to a $50 civil infraction fine.
You may still use the compostable brown yard waste bags for leaves, garden vegetation (including pumpkins) & small sticks. These bags will be picked up by the curb during your normal scheduled leaf collection pick-up.
A final reminder, despite all advanced preparation, equipment can breakdown or weather events can slow or end the program early. Do not wait to rake. Early snowfall requires equipment and crews to be redirected to snow removal operations.
· The regular curbside brush pick up is suspended during leaf pick-up.
· Loose leaves & compostable brown yard waste bags can be taken to the Department of Public Works, 1000 N. US-127 BR. This site is open 24/7. Please use the Kuntz Drive entrance.
· If you are a senior or physically challenged and are unable to dispose of your leaves, contact City Offices at (989) 224-8944, ext. 282 or email firstname.lastname@example.org by November 1st so arrangements can be made.
The city does require city residents to use mint green city trash bags for trash disposal. The mint green bags can be purchased at several locations: Mint green trash bag purchase locations Trash pickup takes place on Wednesday's or Friday's, please see map for pickup schedule. Your mint green bags must be curbside by 7:00 AM on pickup day, do not place the mint green bags in your brown/yellow recycle cart, the cart is for loose recyclable items only.
The brown and yellow Granger recycle carts are for recyclables only. Please do not place trash, green trash bags, wood, grass clippings, dirt or compost in these carts. The cart will not be emptied if it contains the incorrect materials. Click here to view the 2018 recycle guide. The recycle cart is emptied on the same day your mint green bags are collected.
